Top 40 New Year’s Resolutions (by one survey)

It’s that time of year when we make New Year’s Resolutions – a commitment to change, to do something different this year than last. According to a survey conducted by LA Fitness the most popular New Year’s Resolution for 2013 was to read more books. Who would have thought! Here’s their top 40:

1. Read more books
2. Save more money
3. Lose weight
4. Redecorate
5. Take better photos
6. Go traveling
7. Sell old unwanted stuff on eBay
8. Buy a tablet
9. Organize photos
10. Do something for charity
11. Spend more time with kids
12. Buy a Sunday paper
13. Less TV time
14. Connect my computer to my TV
15. Leave work on time more often
16. Less time on Facebook
17. Totally revamp my wardrobe
18. Try a new hairstyle
19. Get a six-pack
20. Eat less chocolate
21. Socialize more in real life rather than Facebook
22. Drink less alcohol
23. Buy less coffee from Starbucks/big chains
24. Start my own business
25. Tell someone I have feelings for them
26. Quit smoking
27. Gain a promotion
28. Learn how to use Twitter
29. Run a half or full marathon
30. Call people more than text
31. Cut someone out of my life who isn’t good for me
32. Meet online contacts in real life
33. Watch less reality TV
34. Text people less
35. Try to save relationship
36. Try extreme sports
37. Get better at social networking
38. Stop contacting/going back to an ex-partner
39. Have a face-to-face with my boss to find out where I stand
40. Do a bungee jump

Making resolutions isn’t a bad idea – most of us need to change a few things in life. But what about our spiritual lives? Aren’t there some things that we need to change there as well?

Here are some ideas for you to work with based on the above list:

1. Read the Bible more
2. Give more money
3. Act like your body is the temple of God
4. Help a homeless person find a home
5. Take better photos while you’re on a missions trip
6. Go on a missions trip
7. Sell old unwanted stuff and give the proceeds to your church
8. Buy a tablet and give it away
9. Organize your time so you can serve God better
10. Do something for charity (don’t need to change that one)
11. Spend more time with kids (or that one)
12. Buy a Sunday paper and read it after church
13. Less TV time (or that one)
14. Limit my time on my computer and my TV (see #1)
15. Leave work on time more often so I can spend it with my family)
16. Less time on Facebook (or that one)
17. Totally revamp a wardrobe for someone less fortunate
18. Try a new hairstyle (I can’t figure out what to do with this)
19. Exercise more because your body is the Temple of God
20. Eat less chocolate (nooooooooooooo – I’m under conviction)
21. Socialize more in real life rather than Facebook and share Christ while you’re at it
22. Drink less alcohol (or that one)
23. Buy less coffee from Starbucks/big chains and invest the savings for God
24. Start my own business for the glory of God
25. Tell someone God loves them
26. Quit smoking (or that one)
27. Trust God to put you where He wants you
28. Learn how to use Twitter (who cares?)
29. Run to win the prize of the high calling of God
30. Call people and invite them to church
31. Cut something out of my life that isn’t good for me
32. Meet each week with God’s people
33. Watch less TV
34. Text people less especially during church
35. Try to save a relationship (or that one)
36. Try extreme living by faith
37. Get better at social networking with the goal of impacting the world for Christ
38. Stop contacting/going back to old sinful habits
39. Have a daily face-to-face with God
40. Do a spiritual bungee jump into the Christian life
